Turning an under-deck space into a luxury destination
Solving the

Sloped backyards often present a dilemma: how do you create usable flat space without losing the view? For this project, we utilized the area beneath the existing second-story deck to create a sheltered patio. By installing a massive retaining wall system, we carved out a level terrace that feels grounded and secure, turning a steep hill into a functional multi-zone entertainment area.

In a neighborhood setting, privacy is luxury. We designed a custom modern fireplace flanked by a horizontal wood slat wall. This isn’t just a fence; it’s an architectural feature that warms up the space visually while blocking sightlines from neighbors, creating a cozy ‘room’ feel outdoors.

Every inch counts. Instead of leaving the awkward space under the staircase empty, we custom built a grill station and bar. Clad in stacked stone with a honed stone countertop, it fits perfectly into the niche, keeping the main circulation paths open for guests.

Perched at the edge of the terrace, the hot tub offers the best seat in the house. We surrounded it with premium travertine pavers, which stay cooler than concrete in the summer and provide a non-slip, elegant surface that elevates the entire aesthetic.
