Designing for the Senses
True luxury isn’t always about scale; it’s about feeling. For the Sakura project, our goal was to create a sensory landscape that acts as a natural retreat from the modern world. By fusing Oriental design principles with the home’s existing stacked-stone architecture, we crafted a space defined by balance. From the visual explosion of seasonal blooms to the tactile warmth of natural flagstone and the acoustic serenity of rushing water, every element was engineered to induce a state of complete calm.
A ModernHearth Beneath the Blooms
We stepped away from traditional masonry fire pits to introduce a striking, minimalist concrete fire bowl. Filled with dark volcanic glass, this low-profile, sculptural piece provides a
contemporary contrast to the rustic surroundings. Positioned directly beneath a breathtaking ornamental Cherry tree (Sakura), it creates an intimate, grounded gathering space that
transforms with the seasons.
The Sound of Solitude
To establish a true sanctuary, we had to control the atmosphere. We designed and built an artisan, multi-level waterfall using hand-selected river boulders and natural fieldstone. This feature is pure ‘acoustic architecture’, the constant, gentle rush of water acts as a natural sound barrier, masking neighborhood noise and wrapping the patio in absolute tranquility.
Navigating Nature
Rather than forcing rigid geometry onto a wooded lot, we let the landscape dictate the flow. We laid premium blue grey flagstone with precise, organic joints, allowing the pathways to meander naturally. Bright quartz gravel fills the negative spaces, illuminating the shaded areas under the canopy, while robust stacked stone retaining walls gracefully organize the terrain’s subtle elevations.

Engineered for
Longevity and Flow
Achieving seamless circulation over
thousands of square feet requires
meticulous engineering.
From the precision grading needed for
the multi-level terraces to the structural
integrity behind the grand stacked stone
fireplace, SunSouth Carolinas plans every
structural detail before a single paver is
set. We ensure that the intricate
architecture supports the sensory experience,
built to perform with modern efficiency.
